Rocks, Rocks, and More Rocks

We made sand castles at the library today. The lesson was supposed to be on the beach, but I doubt Sophie picked up on that. If you ask her what she did today she will tell you "Sand castles and ROCKS!" The librarians had all kinds of things to decorate the sandcastles- starfish, shells, flags and rocks. When Sophie saw the rocks she ran right over, grabbed a BIG handful and poured them over her sandcastle. She then clapped her hands and said, "Yea!" I was, of course, mortified that my child had taken a huge amount of the shared supplies instead of the allotted 2. Thankfully, the librarian just gave Sophie a big smile and said, "She must really like rocks." To which Sophie echoed, "Rocks!" and then hopped up and down. We left soon after, I carried the 10 pound sand castle filled with rocks and we snuck out the back. I was afraid if we stayed any longer Sophie would push her luck and add another handful. Moral of the story- little girls in pig tails can get away with a lot.

Sophie almost always has a rock clutched in her hand when we are outside. It is also lots of fun to sneak them inside. I find them in all sorts of places. Today I decided to gather them up and see how many I could find. After 15 minutes of looking I found 13. These were hidden in plain sight- it's no telling how many are hidden throughout our house. In little spots that only 2 year old's can see and little fingers can reach. If anyone is interested in going on a scavenger hunt, let me know.
