Carl is not one to do much for his birthday, but birthdays are a big deal around here. Sophie has been playing birthday party, and making pretend cakes for weeks. We therefore could not let an actual birthday pass us by without any sort party. Sophie insisted that Carl have a real birthday cake, ice cream, candles for the cake, party hats, balloons, and party signs. And of course, wrapped presents, "with bows and tags."
When Carl came home from work we had the house decorated, and party hats on. Sophie burst into singing Happy Birthday, and I think was hoping for cake right then and there. Sophie made the birthday really fun, and now Carl is officially middle aged.
